All auditions and entries will be judged using the following rubric of values, technicalities, and objective qualities, which ensures fair measurement of each entry in a transparent and equitable manner.

Overall, this is what we’re generally expecting from qualifying entries:

Storytelling

If art isn’t your strength but you can do layout, pacing, and panelling, as well as use dialogue and events to tell a good story, overall a mature and satisfying narrative will be considered the top priority.

Clarity

So long as we can follow what’s going on in your story, you’re set! In order to give points, we need to be able to understand what is happening in a scene.

Character

Character development is key to grabbing our interest. Get us invested in your character, let us get to know them better! We want to care enough about your character to look forward to what happens to them.

Please Consult the Rubric

We highly recommend that players look over the rubric to see what kind of points can be hit for a more successful entry with smooth narration and presentation. Ideally, this guide will help improve your storytelling ability, and offer points and suggestions on how to enhance your entry.

Critiques & Feedback

Banquet OCT is committed to transparency and clarity in our evaluation process for auditions and entries. We strictly adhere to the Judging Rubric, ensuring that 99% of critiques are firmly based on objective criteria supported by examples and evidence. The remaining 1% is reserved for instances of ties, where our own subjective opinions will guide our decision-making. All assessments will be meticulously documented, eliminating any ambiguity surrounding our selection criteria.

Furthermore, every entry will undergo a comprehensive review process. ONLY ON REQUEST will our judges will precisely outline the strengths and weaknesses in graphics and composition, offering specific suggestions and examples for improvement. These editorial reviews will primarily highlight areas for refinement, assuming that any aspects not addressed are considered adequate unless executed flawlessly. This approach forms the foundation of our critique process.

If you wish for a critique of your work, please state what precisely about what aspect you’d like your crit to focus on upon submission. The audition submission form is here.

It’s important to note that our approach to critique is focused on substance rather than mere praise. We value constructive feedback over the ‘compliment sandwich’ approach. As an OCT geared towards adults, we expect contestants to engage maturely in this process. Our objective is mutual improvement, and we encourage seeking compliments from friends and family, recognizing our role in fostering growth through constructive criticism.

Howdy, I’m Minty! I’ve been working in and around OCTs since middle school. I’ve judged, co-hosted, and competed, so I know my way around them pretty well. I’m currently co-Hosting Summer Leagues OCT with my childhood buddy, Vash. I’m an art history major who loves studying Victorian themes, so this OCT is right up my alley. Best of luck!

Hello! I’m an illustrator/ programmer working on comics and games. I’ve been participating in OCTs for over a decade as both a competitor and judge/host, and am most well-known for hosting Summer Leagues OCT. Yoko Taro’s work heavily influences mine, so if you’re a fan of Drakengard/ NieR you might enjoy me! Nice to meet you~ ( ˙▿˙ )
